THE TITANS

The Titans’ Leaning Tower of Babel

A long time ago the earth birthed a race of colossal creatures with steeples growing from the rooves of their skulls. They couldn’t procreate, and were unaffected by old age. The steeple-headed giants formed a society and called it ‘Babel’.

United by their single-minded desire for ascension, they merged their bodies together to form one great tower that reached higher than the sky and touched worlds that were not meant to be touched. The Titans learnt from these worlds forbidden things that were never meant to be known and grew very powerful. They soon forgot about the earth that had given them birth.

They played with the laws of reality, bending and breaking it. They created new creatures to amuse them, smaller beings that feared them. They became arrogant and vain and spent their days seeking unsustainable pleasures.

Aeons passed by and eventually their society started to crumble. They became divided over unanswerable questions. The main cause for dispute was the question over the reason for existence, an inquiry that didn’t need to be answered. They fought amongst themselves which eventually caused their tower to come crashing down back to the earth.

Most crumbled to little pieces after falling back to the earth, but even those who remained relatively intact had forgotten how to speak and lost all memory of who they once were. With their senses dulled, they were left to wander the earth on hands and knees, always searching for what it was that they couldn’t remember losing. Their large and slow moving bodies became the perfect shelter for the smaller creatures who had once lived in fear of them. Others unknowingly reconnected with former members of their forgotten tower, but they never reached the same heights they had come to before because they didn’t know how, and couldn’t remember ever doing so.
